Abstract/Contents: | Describes a new artificial turf soccer field that was constructed on the roof of the Pier 40 sports facility in Manhattan. The field is constructed of an artificial grass material called Field Turf. This is made up of 2.5-inch lengths of hybrid polypropylene/polyethylene fiber which are interfilled with a 2-inch deep layer of sand and crumb rubber. Prior to turf installation a drainage system is required. The Hudson River Park Trust takes care of the maintenance which is only a light brushing every 60 days to freshen the appearance of the fibers. |
