Abstract/Contents:Discusses the problem of shade in growing turfgrass. There are three types of grass to be considered in a domed stadium: permanent ryegrass, bermuda overseeded with rye, and zoysia. Ryegrass tolerates a lot of shade but requires close attention to potassium and watering to allow roots to grow. Bermuda grass is not good in the shade and is hard to maintain in the summer especially under high traffic situations. Zoysia is a good choice but has a long dormant period. An alternative to sunlight is to turn artificial lights such as stadium lights on the turfgrass. Also includes information about management studies.
