Abstract/Contents: | Discusses laying sod on sports fields. Sod may be used instead of seed due to the high demand of opening on time. Conventional sodding is one of the methods of sodding where the turf is grown on a layer of soil. This method causes problems in that if the soil beneath is coarser it causes a perched water table. Another method is washing away the soil but this also washes away most of the roots eposing the crown so the plant must have time to reestablish. The third option is growing turf on plastic but this is not very economical because of the cost. Also includes information about research on growing sod on a mulch layer. |
