Abstract/Contents: | Details the biological effects of shade on turfgrass, and summarizes the results of a study comparing the effects of different types of shade on turfgrass growth. In the study, "open" shade from just a few trees caused relatively little difference in the amount of light reaching turfgrass, while denser shade caused a greater reduction in the amount of light. Also presents research results suggesting that high rates of nitrogen fertilization cause a decrease in the quality of shaded turfgrass due to the presence of Rhizoctonia solani (brown patch disease). |
