Abstract/Contents:"Efficacy of eight POST herbicides applied either once or twice (7-day interval) for control of doveweed (Murdannia nudiflora) and terestrial alligatorweed (Alternanthera philoxeroides) was determined in a field (sandy loam) experiment. Both weeds were propagated from stem and/or root cuttings. Centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides) and St. Augustinegrass (Stenotaphrum secundatum) tolerance was also evaluated. Weed (transplants) and turfgrasses (sod) were planted in randomized strips in May and June of 1997. The first POST was 9/04 and the second 9/11. Water carrier was applied at 20 GPA and non-ionic surfactant was included at 0.25% v/v. Herbicides and rates (lb ai/A) were : AAtrex (1.5); Trimec Southern (0.86); Ally/Escort (0.032); Plateau/Cadre (0.032); Oust (0.032); Confront (0.75); Vanquish (0.5); Basagran (1.0). Doveweed control was 87% with Confront at 0.75 + 0.75 (only centipedegrass tolerant); 90% control with Vanquish at 0.5 + 0.5 lb ae/A (both turfgrasses tolerant); Ally/Escort provided 95% control with 0.032 (centipedegrass tolerant of 0.032 and St. Augustinegrass tolerant of 0.032 + 0.032). Other treatments were non-efficacious or the second application was not needed. Efficacy of 11 herbicides on POST control of annyal kyllinga (Cyperus sesquiflorus), green kyllinga (C. brevifolius), annual flat sedge (C. compressus), globe sedge (C. compressus), globe sedge (C. globulosus), yellow (C. esculentus) and purple (C. rotundus) nutsedges was determined in a greenhouse experiment. Transplants of the non-tuberous sedges and tubers of yellow and purple nutsedge generated the necessary plants. Plants were maintained at a 3-ince clippin height and treatments were applied 40 days after transplantin/planting into 32-ounce cups (85% sand + 15% peat). Water carriere and non-ionic surfactant was the same as above. Herbicides and rates (lb ai/A) were : Manage (0.032, 0.064); MSMA (1.5); Basagran (1.0); AAtrex (1.5); Image (0.25); 2,4-D (0.75); Trimec Southern (1.0); Sencor (0.25); Oust (0.125); Ally/Escort (0.032); Plateau/Cadre (0.032). At 3 WAT, Basagran provided 98% control of green kyllinga. Control with MSMA (78%) and Sencor (79%) was near acceptable. Several herbicides provided acceptable control of annual kyllinga at 3 WAT: Image (92%); bASAGRAN (97%; Manage @ 0.064 (87%); Sencor (98%); and Oust (82%). MSMA controlled 99% globe sedge, and annual flat sedge was controlled 98% by MSMA, Basagran, and Sencor 3 WAT. At 8 WAT, green kyllinga control with Mangae was 87% and 94% for the two rates. Image, Basagran, Sencor, Oust and Plateau/Cadre controlled green kyllinga > 93%. Annual kyllinga control was 92% with all herbicides except Ally/Escort. Globe sedge control was >96% with all except AAtrex and Ally/Escort. Annual flat sedge control was >87% control with all except AAtrex 8 WAT."
