Abstract/Contents:Examines how turfgrass management affects water quality using scientific data gathered from various studies. The studies included measuring nitrate and coliform bacteria from sections of a stream that ran through both a golf course and a residential area. Nitrates were higher in the golf course area and coliform levels were higher in the residental area. Low levels of pesticides were also detected in the golf setting. Also describes the ongoing testing conducted at the Turfgrass Environmental Research Facility, which utilizes flow measurement systems, automatic water samplers, and a complete weather station. Discusses some of the experiments being conducted at the facility, such as irrigation flow distribution, nitrogen leaching, and triadimefon leaching.
