Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of winter protection for sports turf and emphasizes that because of the variable winters in the Montreal region, certain protections may be more beneficial or harmful to turf than others. Provides a series of case studies associated with turfgrass kills or injuries during the winter of 1997-1998. Each case examines the symptoms, causes, and possible solutions for the problem. Also examines the causes of rotten odors under winter covers, explaining the aerobic and anaerobic decomposition of organic matter. Describes the various turf protections used by individuals during the 97-98 winter and examines why the turf was killed or injured and why some turf survived. |
