Abstract/Contents:Discusses the plans of top greenkeepers in cricket, golf, football, bowls, and rugby for the coming month. Steve Braddock, groundsman for the Arsenal Football Club says the condition of the turf for the upcoming season is good. He plans to put a fertilizer down 10 days before the opening game to ensure green turf. He also discusses the height of cut and new goal nets. John Collier, EBA eastern region advisor and coordinater plans on hollow tining at a depth of 5 inches, which he does every three years. He also includes information about the fertilizers and fungicides he is planning to apply in Autumn. Philip Baldock, head greenkeeper at Royal Portrush Golf Club, Co. Antrim discusses the problem with cleaning up the rubbish after the Senior British Open. This year all areas will be magnetically swept to prevent damage to equipment. He also relates his procedures on equipment maintenance and replacement, and discusses the seed varieties used for overseedin the greens. Gary Lewis, head groundsman at Salford RLFC discusses his problem with the pitch drying out quickly and his efforts to try to keep up with the irrigation. He also describes his plans to keep divots under control and add a new root-zone mix with less sand. Tom Flintoft, head groundsman at Durham County Cricket Club discusses his plans to spray for fusarium. He also includes information about the use of the facilities, machine upkeep, and normal maintenance.
