Abstract/Contents: | Discusses two new grass species that have gone on sale in the UK offering new solutions to turf managers. Supina bluegrass (Poa supina) is new to the UK but has been used in Germnay for over 30 years and velvet bent (Agrostis canina) has been used in ornamentals and golf courses since the 1960's. Poa supina is stoloniferous and forms dense turf relatively quick because it produces lateral shoots and roots at every node. It's use is mostly on tees. It gives good wear tolerance, shade tolerance, disease resistance, and out-competes Poa annua. This species appears to be successful and grows in relaitively quick. Avalon, the velvet bent variety is being tested and the results will be posted in next months issue. |
