Abstract/Contents: | Discusses how the UK's 1974 Health and Safety at Work Act affects the purchasing of equipment by grounds managers. Describes how the buyer must completely understand the machine's use or become liable when an employee gets injured while using the machine improperly. Describes how problems are created when managers fail to ask the supplier for specifications of the equipment being purchased. Provides points to remember when drawing up a specification to give to a supplier. Also discusses how the manufacturer/supplier must provide some introductory training on new equipment.
