Abstract/Contents:Discusses water runoff from areas such as lawns, golf courses, driveways, and sidewalks. These runoffs usually carry pollutants in them to storm drains. Storm drains run directly into creeks, rivers, and lakes without being cleaned. Golf courses account for much of the harmful runoff because of their heavy use of fertilizers. Includes discussions about the environmental impacts of golf courses globally. Potable water use is important to the golf industry but expensive and hard to come by so many courses look to supplement with effluent or storm water. Siltation in rivers and creeks is also discussed and its affects on aquatic life. Nitrogen and Phosphorus overabundance also cause problems from runoff of nearby land. Also discusses several case studies at Minami Golf Course, HI, Radnor Country Golf Course, PA, and Michigan City, IN and what was done to control erosion and runoff. Also includes a listing of EPA suggestios from "Environmental Principles for Golf Courses in the United States".
