Abstract/Contents: | Demonstrates how Kentucky bluegrass color is influenced by kind of fertilizer, mulch mowing with a 25% reduction in N rate, and N rate and frequency of application. Includes table of treatments and visual ratings. Concludes that synthetic fertilizers produce better ratings; mulch mowing and a lower N rate produce equal or better results after one season; fast spring green-up requires a synthetic fertilizer with a portion of slow-release N; quality lawns cannot be achieved with N rates below 4.0 lb/season and less than 4 applications, 6 weeks apart; and that weed infestation is reduced if satifactory turf color is maintained 85% of the time. |
