Note: | Pictures, b/w Correction printed in BioCycle, Vol. 40, No. 4, April 1999, p. 14: "After reviewing the article 'Blends Boost Composters' Market Options and Profits' in the February issue of BioCycle, I noticed an inaccurate quote attributed to me. Jim Glenn wrote: 'Compost has a water infiltration rate of about two times. Peat's infiltration is about ten times. And that's way too much.' The quote should have stated: 'Compost has a water holding capacity of two times its weight and peat's water holding capacity is over ten times its weight. And that is too much for many soil systems.' Either party during our extended conversation could have easily made the mistaken reference to water infiltration rate rather than water holding capacity. I am concerned that individuals who understand these terms will be confused or perceive my knowledge of soil science is poor. - Matthew Cole, All Gro, Hampton, New Hampshire" |
