Abstract/Contents:Discusses Poa annua, the most troublesome grassy weed on turfgrass. Problems caused by Poa annua include its lighter color and the amount of seed head it produces. Poa often thrives on bentgrass greens because of high moisture, nitrogen and traffic, and fungicide use. Lists two biotypes Poa annua, ssp. annua and ssp. reptans and their favorable growing conditions. Cultural practices that favor Poa that should be prevented are continuously wet and compacted soils, excessive nitrogen rates, and excess clippings. Also includes information on post and pre- emergent herbicides and the use of PGR's to control Poa.
