Abstract/Contents:Discusses how there are many different choices for post and pre-emergence herbicides. Environmentalists are concerned that they may hurt the environment so there are now substitutes for insecticides and fungicides. These fall into three different categories: soaps, corn gluten meal and biological control. Soaps and corn gluten meal are briefly discussed. The use of viruses, bacterias and fungi are a way to control weeds biologically. By finding the correct virus, bacteria or fungi a weed can be fought effectively. The future holds a demand for "natural" products for use on lawns and researchers are working on isolating, identifying and developing naturally occurring compounds from plants and other sourse that selectively control weeds.
