Abstract/Contents: | Fertilizers marketed to homeowners and those marketed to turfgrass professionals were evaluated for Kentucky bluegrass and creeping bentgrass color response. The effects of clipping management (removal versus mulch mowing) in combination with the home fertilizers were also examined. Color data for all fertilizer treatments is provided. Major conclusions of the study include: mulch mowing provided consistently higher color than clipping removal; immediate color response to home fertilizers did not necessarily correlate with long-term, season-long maintenance of color; application of professional fertilizers at 0.5 lb N/M/month is a more appropriate fertilization schedule for creeping bentgrass than for Kentucky bluegrass; and most of the professional fertilizers tested seemed equally capable of delivering a satisfactory color response. |
