| Abstract/Contents: | A study was conducted to evaluate the effects of Premix and Bio Grounds Keeper on a Kentucky bluegrass lawn and a bentgrass/annual bluegrass golf course fairway. Products were evaluated for thatch control and changes caused in soil test results. "For two successive years, Bio Grounds Keeper products have controlled thatch on the muck soil golf course fairway. In 1992, supplemental N was not required, while there was a supplemental N requirement in 1993. This may well reflect the fact that this year rainfall was more than 14 inches above normal. The presence of compacted, fine-textured soil on the Kentucky bluegrass is believed to be the main cause for thatch accumulation on the site. Rooting into the soil is minimal and research has shown that turf where depth of rooting is restricted is prone to thatch formation. Thus, this may be the type of site where the application of Bio Grounds Keeper cannot overcome site characteristics that favor thatch development." |
