Abstract/Contents:"Ninety-four plant species were identified from a study of 31 areas stripmined for limestome. Twenty-two of these plants have features that make them useful for vegetating stripmined areas. Plant succession was determined for north and south Florida and a revegetating program proposed utilizing the plants identified as contributing to ground cover and erosion control. Bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum Fluegge), common bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon L. Pers), hairy indigo (Indigofera hirsuta L.), and sweet clover (Melilotus alba Desr.) are suggested for the initial establishment period. Live oak (Quercus virginiana Mill), slash pine Pinus elliottii Engelm), and wax myrtle (Myrica cerifea L.) can generally be established after the spoil is five years old."
