| Abstract/Contents: | "A previously undescribed white leaf disease of bermudagrass was observed in India. Pleomorphic mycoplasmalike organisms were present in the phloem tissue of infected plant materials, and were not found in healthy samples. Three aphid species and two leafhopper species were tested for the insect transmission of the diseases, but with negative results. The diseased plants after hot water treatment at 40, 45, 50 and 55°C for 10 min produced healthy sprouts, but the symptom relief was only temporary. Oxytetracycline hydrochloride, when applied to the infected plants, suppressed the symptoms, but only temporarily. Benomyl had no therapeutic effect on the diseased plants." |
