Abstract/Contents:Root growth records are presented for turf of Stenotaphrum secundatum cv. Floratam and Cynodon dactylon cv. Tifgreen, established in a growth chamber. Root growth of both grasses was most stable during the summer months of maximum shoot growth, the daily growth at this time being about 2.8 cm. Rates for Floratam averaged only 1.5 cm/day in late October. Symptoms of low temperature injury developed later on Tifgreen than Floratam. Observations indicated that most, if not all, of the roots of both grasses were regenerated each year. The seasonal fluctuations in growth appeared to be influenced by soil temperature.
