| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of linuron for control of Poa annua in Poa pratensis. Preliminary studies showed that Poa pratensis was most resistant to linuron. Further tests indicated that linuron was effective at nearly all rates tested. "The best treatment period is from late spring (June) to late summer (September) when the daytime temperatures are consistently in the 70's or higher ... Granular linuron should be used where good turfgrass maintenance practices include regular fertilization, sufficient watering to maintain active bluegrass growth, and regular mowing." Avoid treating turf in extreme temperatures (summer heat and frost/freezing temperatures). "The use of this chemical should be avoided where 50% or more Poa annua is present." Some initial discoloration will be noted in the entire turf, but the Poa pratensis should recover within a few weeks, while the Poa annua will die off. A table includes results of linuron tests on a golf course fairway. |
