Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the problems associated with sand topdressing (localized dry-spots, nutrient deficiencies, bacterial wilt of bentgrass greens, and the black layer). Special attention is paid to dealing with the black layer, including a list of the symptoms (thinning followed by a browning of the turf), the causes (excess sulphur in the system), and the controls (avoid applying sulphur for pH reduction, and limiting the use of sulphur-based fertilizers). |
