Abstract/Contents: | Examines the response "of kikuyugrass to nitrogen fertilization under simulated trafficked and nontrafficked conditions." First, nitrogen was applied at four different rates to plots of kikuyugrass; the plots were evaluated for visual quality at two week intervals after treatment. Then, in a two-year field study, fertilizer was applied at three different rates, while traffic was artificially applied at different rates to simulate different levels of golf traffic. "Visual color ratings and turf scores were used to evaluate traffic and recovery ... Kikuyugrass turf that is not trafficked can be adequately maintained with an application of 0.5 lb. N/1000 ft² one per year. For higher turfgrass performance, three applications of nitrogen at 1.0 lb./1000 ft² provided the highest quality kikuyugrass turf with or without traffic." |
