| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses studies in using unamended sand on golf greens. Cites low water-holding capacity and poor cation exchange as two problems with sand as a field-growing media. "[T]he 'right' sand is a medium in which 90 to 100 percent of the particles are no larger than 1mm in diameter and no finer than 0.1mm, with the dominant fraction between 0.5mm and 0.25mm." Describes putting surface construction. Recommends a tile system to remove excess water. Examines turfgrass reaction to nutrient deficiency. |
