Abstract/Contents:"Two experiments were conducted on two unamended creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris Huds.) putting greens to compare the effectiveness of flurprimidol, paclobutrazol, and trinexapac-ethyl applied at various rates and application frequencies in suppressing annual bluegrass (Poa annua ssp. Reptans [Hausskn.] Timm.) plant populations and seedheads. One of the putting greens was overseeded with bentgrass and the other was non-overseeded. Paclobutrazol applied twice in the fall and once in the spring at 0.42 kg ai/ha/application provided the greatest suppression of annual bluegrass populations and seedheads on both overseeded and non-overseed putting greens. Flurprimidol applied once in the fall and spring at 0.28 kg ai/ha/application as well as trinexapac-ethyl applied twice in the fall (0.19 and 0.06 kg/ai/ha respectively) and again in the spring (0.19 kg ai/ha) provided some seedhead suppression but did not reduce annual bluegrass populations. Trinexapac-ethyl applied at a low rate twice in the fall (0.11 and 0.06 kg ai/ha respectively) and once in the spring (0.11 kg ai/ha) did not provide any seedhead suppression of annual bluegrass in the non-overseeded bentgrass putting green."
