| Abstract/Contents: | "The current protocol (Hummel, 1993) for evaluating the performance of rootzone materials provides the minimal amount of technical data needed to properly assess the suitability of materials. Water release curves allow for a more complete evaluation of a rootzone's performance by determining the water release characteristics over a predetermined range of tension points. The generated data can be used as a diagnostic tool of existing rootzones and for the assessment of greens construction materials under various conditions and climates. Water release curves not only allow for laboratory simulation of naturally occurring conditions but can also determine the actual impact of applied turf management programs. By expanding the soil physical assessment of the growing medium, potential environmental and economic patterns may be identified and optimized." |
