Abstract/Contents:"A number of opinion polls and surveys have elicited golfer attitudes about golf course playing conditions, but no instrument has specifically tested the role of golf course color in shaping attitudes about the overall excellence of a golf course. This paper reports the unpublished results of an experiment into this aspect of golfer psychology. The results confirm what environmentalists and other critics of the modern, high-maintenance American-style golf course have been observing in recent years - that is, that golfers in the United States have come to identify excellent golf with one color, dark green. Environmental ramifications of this influence of color are discussed."
