Abstract/Contents: | "This paper provides an overview of the relationship between golf and the environment in Scotland and specifically seeks to demonstrate why golf clubs should consider environmental issues, how they can effectively undertake stewardship of their environment, and the benefits to be gained. Much of the discussion focuses on the golf club and the opportunities for integrating environmental issues into the management of existing golf courses. The following aspects are addressed - summary of the golf/environment debate, structure for Integrated Management, the benefits of such an approach, and the role of the Scottish Golf Course Wildlife Initiative. The paper is prepared from the research and experience of the Scottish Golf Course Wildlife Group, a partnership of golfing and environmental organisations established in 1993." |
