| Abstract/Contents: | "Seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum Swartz) is a warm season, salt-tolerant, prostrate-growing turfgrass that can be found in tropical, subtropical and warm temperate regions of the world. The breeding program at the University of Georgia has assembled approximately 300 ecotypes for initial evaluation on greens at a mowing height of 6mm followed by large scale evaluations directly on golf courses in California, Texas, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Guam, Cayman Islands, and Portugal. Tissue culture has been used to create additional diversity and over 100 somaclonal variants have been selected in the field. Genetic analysis is being used to differentiate genetic material and to provide data on global movement of paspalums." |
