Abstract/Contents: | "The use of herbicides in golf course sand traps has been restricted because of the danger of phytoxicity to the turf-grasses when treated sand is blasted onto them. These experiments were conducted to evaluate the utility of glyphosate, a new herbicide with little soil activity, for edging and controlling weeds in golf course sand traps. Glyphosate at rates of 1.5 to 3.0 lb. a.i./acre gave excellent control of a large number of weed species in golf course sand traps, including Cynodon dactylon and Cyperus rotundus. A number of field and greenhouse experiments showed no phytoxicity to Cynodon spp. commonly used for golf putting greens when sand was equilibrated with up to 2,000 ppm of glyphosate and placed upon the turf." |
