Abstract/Contents:"The control of weeds in turf is extremely important from the standpoint of preserving turf quality. Hand weeding, however, requires substantial expenditures of financial resources and human labour. From the perspective of environmental protection, attention has been called to the use of herbicide weeding as a potential source of pollution. In this paper, a two-year experiment was performed using 1-(1-methylethyl)-2-[4-(trifluoromethoxy) phenyl]-5-pyrimidine methanol (Flurprimidol), a plant growth regulator, in an attempt to determine its potential utility for the control of Kummerovia striata (Thunb.) Schindler in a Zoysia japonica Steud. lawn. The experiment showed that Zoysia japonica and Kummerovia striata (Japanese clover) differed in their susceptibility to Flurprimidol. A single application of Flurprimidol resulted in the suppression of Japanese clover growth to one-half that of the untreated turf, while a repeat application in the second-year virtually eliminated it. The results of this experiment are noteworthy in suggesting the potential utility of Flurprimidol for the control of Japanese clover within turf."
