Abstract/Contents:Summarizes the results of a study examining golfers' perceptions of "ultra-green" and less green golf courses. Golfers were shown slides of golf courses of different shades. "For the 18 slides showing the ultra-green, the average rating per slide [on a 0 to 10 scale] was 8.1, compared to 5.9 for those not so green, a difference of 2.2. Other major findings: The less frequently one plays, the greater the difference between the ratings...Women are somewhat less influenced by ultra-green than men. Those who had lived abroad rated ultra-green slightly lower than those who had not. Those who watched televised golf regularly rated ultra-green 2.3 points higher than those who watched it only occasionally." Suggests that less emphasis must be placed on ultra-green color in the future in order to make golf course maintenance more environmentally sustainable.
