Abstract/Contents: | A study was conducted evaluating the effect of subsurface air injection (the SubAir^DTm system) on various putting green quality parameters, as well as to evaluate various cultivars of bentgrass. "The effects of subsurface air injection on turf quality were minimal. Dependent on the time of year, there were large differences among varieties in turf quality...There was no effect of subsurface air injection on rooting depth...Putting green speeds generally do not differ among varieties. Air injection decreased green speed compared to no air injection in June, but the effect was slight...Cultivar differences in shoot density were fairly consistent throughout this time period...Subsurface air injection increased shoot density 23% in September measurement...Subsurface air injection cooled the rootzone at 2 and 8 inches about 5°F during daylight hours...There are still many questions that must be answered and repeated measurements are necessary for scientific rigor to be maintained; we continue to collect data." |
