| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses important points about drainage improvements: water management in soils, flow in coarse textured soil, flow in fine textured soil. Includes a step-by-step process for drainage improvement: (a) Determine the cause of the wet soil. The problem may be caused by a perched watertable, runoff from higher catchments, or spring and seepage discharge, (b) A topographical survey is usually needed with included soil classification, (c) a plan should be drawn up with appropriate data and cross-sections prepared to meet the needs of the site, (d) the construction stage comes next and only competent contractors should be employed. The timing of operations is always important, and (e) subsurface installations on drainage sites should be recorded on a suitable scale plan or vertical aerial photo. |
