Abstract/Contents:Describes the importance of understanding the "old" bentgrasses in order to have some knowledge about the "new" bentgrasses. Discusses the need for having good management when growing bentgrass. Describes three key components to providing a high quality putting greens: having a genetically superior turfgrass cultivar, a sound foundation to support its growth, and a good management program and equipment. "Bentgrass management during the summer requires the use [of] the best possible cultivar, combined with a sound cultural program which will maximize an active growing growing root system. The primary element to keep ion mind is a strong root system has the capability of cooling the plant." strong root system that has the capability to cool the plant and that this will minimize the frequent light irrigations. Also describes how a flush during hot periods, aerification and irrigation will help support bentgrass growth.
