Abstract/Contents:Details a study designed to identify species and abundance of mosses found on bentgrass putting greens in mountain regions of North Carolina and to devise management and control strategies for these mosses. Silvery thread moss was the most abundant species found. "Treatments included experimental iron formulations, Ultra Dawn dishwashing soap, the mercury-based fungicide PMAS, ammonium sulfate, and the same treatments applied in combination with...oxadiazon." PMAS provided the best control initially, but control dropped significantly eight weeks after treatment. One of the iron formulations provided excellent control in one of the two test sites, but results are inconclusive. Oxadizon generally enhanced moss control. This research aims to "provide alternatives to reconstruction of greens which is the only means to control moss once infestations become severe."
