Abstract/Contents:Summarizes a study to "investigate long-term management strategies for suppression and control of annual and perennial Poa annua biotypes in bentgrass putting greens and fairways and overseeded bermudagrass." Tests were conducted at four different golf courses to determine the best strategies for managing annual and perennial biotypes of annual bluegrass in bentgrass putting greens. "Paclobutrazol, paclobutrazol + cyproconazol, flurprimidol, trinexapacethyl, dithiopyr, and ethofumesate were evaluated in single and multiple applications." Paclobutrazol + cyproconazol was the most effective treatment against both annual and perennial biotypes. Additional tests were conducted "to evaluate annual bluegrass control in perennial ryegrass overseeded into bermudagrass." All treatments used provided >80% control, with ethofumesate providing >90% control when "applied late November and mid-December." A final set of tests were conducted at two golf courses to evaluate annual bluegrass control in nonoverseeded bermudagrass. These tests were in an effort to find alternatives to simazine, due to environmental questions about its use and resistant strains of annual bluegrass. Although several treatments provided adequate protection against Poa annua, control of broadleaf weeds was inadequate.
