Abstract/Contents:An extended series of field studies has indicated that surfactant additions of 0.5 to 1.0% can increase the efficacy on glyphosate of quackgrass, especially at lower rates. The surfactant effect is masked by a 2.22 kg/ha rate of glyphosate. Optimum conditions of glyphosate control of quackgrass also mask the surfactant effect at lower rates. It is concluded that the major benefit obtained by the addition of surfactant is to maximize control of quackgrass when glyphosate applications are applied after the six-leaf stage, or when the quackgrass is under temperature or drought stress. Surfactant additions also help to reduce within field variation.
