| Abstract/Contents: | In a study of 55 rooftop lawns which were, as a rule, at least 50 years old, the soil construction, vegetation and fauna were determined. The soil composition (CaCO3, N, Ca, K, Mg, Na, Pb, Cd, Zn) and pH (mainly 6.0-7.0) of 5 Poa compressa lawns, 3 lawns dominated by therophytes (Bromus tectorum and Setaria viridis) and 2 desert-like lawns (mainly Sedum) are tabulated. It is shown that P. compressa requires a soil 12 cm thick while Sedum tolerates 5 cm of soil. |
