| Abstract/Contents: | "One hundred three Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) cultivars and selections were established in a Hagerstown silt loam at the Joseph Valentine Turfgrass Research Center in University Park, PA. Entries were supplied by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program. All entries were seeded on 6 Sep 95 in 4ft x 6ft plots at a rate of 2.3 lb seed/1000 ft². Three replicate plots of each entry were used in this test. Plots were arranged in a randomized complete block design. Prior to seeding, the test area received starter fertilizer at a rate of 1.0 lb of N, 0.75 lb of P₂O₅, and 0.75 lb K₂O/1000 ft². The test was mowed at least once a week with a rotary mower at 2.0 in. The test was fertilized three times in 1998 (Apr, Jun, and Aug) with 1.0 lb N/1000 ft². The spring of 1998 was characterized by cool temperatures and above-average rainfall. Leaf spot was assessed visually on 20 Apr and ratings were based on a scale of 1-9, with 1=extensive disease damage and 9=no disease. Differences in reaction to leaf spot were found among the entries in this test. The majority of entries showed little or no leaf spot injury. The cultivars/selections showing the most leaf spot injury were Kenblue, Ba 75-490, NJ-54, and Pick-855." |
