| Abstract/Contents: | Efficacy of a single application of bensulide 4EC, benefin 2.5G, DCPA 5G and 75 WP, oxadiazon 2G and siduron 50 WP, at recommended rates was compared to reapplication of herbicides using half rate and recommended rate. Seedling counts showed that most crabgrass (Digitaria ischaemum (Schreb.)Muhl.) seed in the plots had germinated during April and May, but germination continued to a lesser extent throughout summer. All bensulide and oxadiazon treatments and reapplication treatments of DCPA had provided excellent, season-long crabgrass control. No benefit was achieved by reapplication of bensulide or oxadiazon. A single application of benefin and siduron exhibited deterioration of residual efficacy by late July. Retreated benefin (2+1 lb ai/A), and siduron (12+6 lb and 12+12 lb ai/A) plots exhibited unacceptable levels of control by mid-August. A single application of DCPA 5G and 75W maintained acceptable levels of control until early September. No discoloration or phytotoxicity was observed from any herbicide on perennial ryegrass. |
