Abstract/Contents: | Discusses three case studies where turfgrass disease was triggered by low soil pH (around pH 4 or less). Describes causes of low soil pH (oxidation of sulfur compounds via aeration, conversion of ammonia to nitrate by soil bacteria), as well as other substances in the soil which can become toxic under acidic conditions (e.g., aluminum or manganese). Details liming of soils to neutralize soil pH. |
