| Abstract/Contents: | "A laboratory bioassay was used to determine the lethal dosage for several natural and synthetic products for controlling surface algae on golf greens. Commercial corn gluten enzymatic hydrolysate (CGEH) was found to be effective in controlling Phormidium sp. algae (50mg/ml). An enzymatic Stubble Digester +® used to promote rapid degradation of high fiber agricultural crops, also proved to be effective in controlling Phormidium sp. algae in laboratory investigations. Cottonseed enzymatic hydrolysate (CSEH) gave some control of algae, however, it was not as effective as CGEH. Neem seed oil was only slightly effective (40μl/ml). The algicide Algaen-X® exhibited algae control after 4 days, comparable to previous field efficacy tests (10μl/ml). Common household bleach (5.25% sodium hypochlorite) gave rapid control of algae at a rate of 50μl/ml." |
