Abstract/Contents:"Daconil 2787® (chlorothalonil) applied at two rates and application intervals, along with Fore® (mancozeb) and an experimental rate of Algaen-X® (quarternary ammonium) were tested for efficacy as a 'curative' in controlling established algal crusts. Treatment effectiveness was evaluated by visual observations of algae color changes 4 days following treatment applications. Algicides were applied on two separate locations on a bermudagrass nursery; a shady area with frequent irrigation and a sunny area with intermittent irrigation, which allowed the algal crusts to 'dry' between irrigations. Daconil 2787® (9.0 oz./1000ft²) applied at 7 day intervals over a 37-day period exhibited the highest level of algae control for all Daconil 2787® treatments tested. The greatest control of the established algal crust was obtained on the 'dry' test plot. Algaen-X® applied two times as a drench at 10 ml/L during the 37-day test gave the best over-all visual ratings for algae control. Although three products all gave noticeable control of the algae on both of the field plots, the control for all treatments was significantly greater on the 'dry' plots."
