Abstract/Contents:"Five creeping bentgrass cultivars (Agrostis stolonifera Huds. 'Emerald', 'Penncross', 'Penneagle', 'Prominent', and 'Seaside') and one velvet bentgrass cultivar (Agrostis canina L. 'Kingstown') were established in four replications under three fertility regimes: 0.25, 0.4, 0.6 kg N/100 m2/growing month. In November nine plugs, 6.35 cm in diameter and 7.5 cm in depth, were taken from each cultivar and fertility treatment in three of the replications. They remained outside under snow cover until February when they were brought in and held at O C. Plugs were placed in a low-temperature, programmable cold chamber and removed at 0, -8, -16, -24, -32, and -40 C. The plugs were then placed in a cooler at 5 C for 18-24 hours and placed in the greenhouse. Data collected included the number of days until complete recovery, percent kill, and dry weight of the clippings. Results indicated that 'Seaside' and 'Kingstown' sustained the most damage. 'Penneagle' was least damaged followed by 'Prominent', 'Penncross', and 'Emerald'."
