Abstract/Contents: | "Dairy production in Texas and the United States has resulted in large quantities of dairy manure. Dairy manure offers an excellent source of nutrients and can be used for turfgrass growth and production. This study was initiated to compare turfgrass growth, quality, and runoff losses of nutrients between manure and traditional inorganic nutrient sources. Tissue analysis, soil tests, turfgrass performance and runoff water quality were evaluated throughout two periods after nutrient application on common bermudagrass growing on an 8 percent slope. Preliminary results have shown highest levels of tissue N and P within plots fertilized with inorgainc fertilizer. Soil tests have shown substantial increases in P levels in all plots compared to the control. Nutrients were lost from all plots in all runoff events, but concentrations were consistently less than established threshold concentrations." |
