Abstract/Contents:Discusses the factors required for successful golf green construction as well as the reason for continuing research in that area. Describes current projects in the domain of green construction, including the objectives and conclusions-to-date. The projects are as follows: engineering characteristics of golf putting greens, effects of sand shape on root zone physical properties, layers in green construction, understanding the hydrology of greens construction methods, assessing root zone mixes, chemical and physical stability of calcareous sands used for greens construction, new technologies in greens construction and maintenance, grow-in and cultural practice inputs on USGA greens and their microbial communities, organic matter dynamics in the surface zone of USGA greens, effects of fungicides on microbial communities in putting greens, and bacterial populations and diversity in sand-based putting greens.
