| Abstract/Contents: | "Trinexapac-ethyl (Primo) is a plant growth regulator from Novartis that has been sold in the United States since 1993. Hundreds of university trials have shown it has many positive benefits on turf growth. It is labeled for use on all the major turfgrasses. Turf vertical growth is reduced about 50% for up to four weeks. Tillering and lateral growth from stolons is stimulated. Increased turf density and darker green color normally occur. Roots and rhizones increase with repeat applications. Water requirement to maintain acceptable turf quality can be reduced 7-26%. Primo treated sod establishes faster than non-treated. Fungicides perform better due to stronger turf and reduced mowing removal of the fungicide. Shade tolerance of some species can be enhanced. An overview of research in these areas will be discussed." |
