Abstract/Contents:"Little information is available on the micronutritional requirements of golf course putting green turf. Color and growth response of three parents of creeping bentgrass 'Penncross' and three vegetative and three flowering genotypes of annual bluegrass to manganese (Mn) were investigated in greenhouse sand culture experiments to determine whether or not inter- or intraspecific differences exist in their Mn requirements. Plants not treated with Mn exhibited a yellowish green on younger leaves (deficient) and tissue Mn content ranged from 10.6 to 29.17 mg kg₋₁. Low rates of Mn in nutrient solution improved turf color and growth in both species. Phytotoxicity occurred at 20 mg l₋₁ in bentgrass and 10 mg l₋₁ in annual bluegrass. Manganese concentrations in dying leaf tissue were 787.1 mg kg ₋₁ for creeping bentgrass and 749.1 mg kg₋₁ for annual bluegrass. Though there was no difference for exhibiting Mn deficient symptoms, annual bluegrass and creeping bentgrass do differ in their Mn requirements for toxicities. No significant differences were observed among genotypes within each species."
