Abstract/Contents:"UV radiation has detrimental influences on turfgrass performance. Studies were conducted to investigate the inhibition of UV on creeping bentgrass (Agrostis palustris L.) treated with biostimulant materials and colorant under greenhouse and field environments. Ten cm diameter plugs were removed from the field and treated with salicylic acid (SA), propiconazole (PPC), humic acid plus seaweed extract (HASE), and a turf colorant (with and without pigment) alone or in combination. The treated plugs were subjected to heat (97° F) treatment for 48 hr and grown under UV radiation and subjected to low soil moisture for 2 wks. Foliar application of the materials enhanced photosynthetic capacity and increased chlorophyll content of creeping bentgrass grown under UV stress. Of the materials, SA, PPC, or SA plus PPC or HASE, or colorant significantly reduced the injury of UV radiation to the bentgrass and improved turfgrass quality. UV-induced detrimental effects of turfgrass could be relieved with biostimulant or colorant applications."
